The Burpengary & Bundamba Train Station Accessibility Upgrades form part of a broader initiative to improve public transport access and compliance with modern accessibility standards. A major component of the upgrade involved the integration of complex structural steelwork, including the construction of a new pedestrian overpass and lift shafts, access stairs with architectural screening, and platform upgrades featuring new signage structures and secondary access stairs. These works had to be delivered with precision in a live rail environment, requiring detailed planning and close coordination with multiple disciplines to ensure both safety and constructability.
BSF Design Solutions was responsible for delivering detailed steel modelling and connection design support throughout the project. Our team worked closely with the structural and architectural design teams to propose practical connection solutions, which were progressively incorporated into the design documentation. We provided fully coordinated 3D models for review and approval prior to the production of shop drawings, allowing for smoother fabrication and reducing the risk of costly rework.
One of the key challenges was coordinating structural steel with service routes, particularly cable paths, in tight spatial conditions. To address this, we participated in regular coordination meetings with the services team, enabling early detection and resolution of clashes. Our proactive modelling and collaborative approach allowed for efficient integration of services within the steelwork, minimising site-based modifications and ensuring alignment with the overall construction schedule.
